On October 15, Miami Dolphins’ Albert Wilson took 150 local foster kids and parents to see a private screening of the new movie “Instant Family” featuring a couple who suddenly find themselves parents to three siblings in foster care. Wilson’s efforts are part of his ongoing mission to support foster kids whose struggles he knows all too well. In 2016, Wilson launched the Albert Wilson Foundation to organize and grow his efforts to provide services to foster youth seeking stable homes and families to care for them.
Play of the Week: Miami Dolphins Take Students Shopping for Halloween Costumes
This Halloween, players and cheerleaders from the Miami Dolphins came to the rescue by taking students from Bennett Elementary in Broward County and Golden Glades Elementary in Miami Dade County shopping for Halloween costumes. Students got the chance to pick out costumes while bonding with Dolphins players and cheerleaders. The event was special not only for the students but also for participating members of the Dolphins organization and Dade County Federal Credit Union, which helped sponsor the event.
Report: Paul Allen stipulated that proceeds from sale of Seahawks go to charity
Late Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen’s NFL succession plan is said to stipulate that the proceeds of the sale of team will go to the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation. Estimated sale prices are topping $3 billion. That money will go to the foundation’s charitable initiatives.
Bears raise more than $800,000 in social justice donations
The Bears and their players raised $813,850 in social justice donations, with matching grants. With money donated primarily by players, and matched by the team and the NFL Foundation, five recipients will benefit. By the Hand Club for Kids; Kicks 4 the City; SAGA; YWCA Lake County; and My Block, My Hood, My City will each receive separate donations. The players collectively donated $291,600. Coaches and front office executives contributed $19,550. The Bears will match the total donation of $311,150, along with additional matching grants from Bears Care and the NFL Foundation.

The Oakland Athletics started a GoFundMe page for the American Red Cross of Northern California to assist victims of the Camp Fire near Chico that has raised $15,414 so far. The San Francisco 49ers hosted players, cheerleaders and coaches from Paradise High School at their MNF game, and fans had signs reading #ParadiseStrong. The franchise also donated all proceeds from their 50/50 raffle to the North Valley Community Foundation for those affected by the Butte County fires. QB Nick Mullens, TE George Kittle, DT DeForest Buckner and other players donated their MNF game-worn jerseys to be auctioned off for relief efforts. Their fundraising goal was $50,000.

Desmond Mason Uses His Artwork to Make Communities Brighter
Mason established the Desmond Mason Art Show, an annual benefit held in all his NBA team cities to raise money for nonprofit organizations, such as Boys and Girls Clubs, White Fields group home for boys and the NFL Players Association scholarship fund. He regularly uses art to raise money in communities around the country. Mason received the U.N. Athlete for Peace Award in 2016. CCM Hockey Donates New Equipment to Special Needs Toronto-Area Hockey Club
CCM Hockey and the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Morgan Rielly surprised the Mississauga Crusaders Special Hockey Club with some new equipment last week. The Fiesta Bowl has fulfilled it’s promise to grant $1 million to Arizona teachers. The Wishes for Teachers program accepted over 4,000 applications and awarded 200 teachers a grant for $5,000. The Fiesta Bowl matched the $500,000 raised to reach the $1 million target.
